Epoxy Resins Create New Functions

Epoxy Resins

Epoxy resins are compounds that contain two or more epoxy functions per molecule. When caused to react chemically with curing agents, these functional resins produce cured materials with good performance properties.
These materials have excellent adhesiveness, chemical resistance, heat resistance and electrical insulation properties; they also show little shrinkage after curing. Taking advantage of such properties, these resin-cured materials are used extensively in a variety of fields that include paints, electric and electronic devices, adhesives, civil engineering, building construction and composite materials.

Materials for Paint Used to Prevent Metallic Corrosion

Through mutual interaction between the hydroxyl groups contained in epoxy resin molecules and metallic substances, strong bonds are formed that produce powerful films with excellent corrosion resistance. By utilizing this mechanism, epoxy resins are extensively used as paint for preventing metallic corrosion.
[Applications]
Automobiles, vessel, bridges and other steel structures, beverage cans

Highly Reliable Insulation Materials in Electric and Electronic Fields

Epoxy resins are used in printed circuit boards because they are excellent electrical insulators, act as good flame-retardants and offer good heat resistance. Also because of these properties, epoxy resins are used as encaplant for semiconductors.
[Applications]
Printed circuit boards, semiconductor sealing materials, transformer molding materials, insulation paints

Functional Resins Take Active Role in Many Fields

• As their good adhesiveness, epoxy resins are used extensively as structural adhesives in civil engineering and building construction.
[Applications]
Concrete and other architectural structures, base materials for road paving, building walls, pouring repair materials, flooring materials, structural adhesives for automobiles

• Combining epoxy resins with carbon fibers produces tough composite materials.
[Applications]
Aircraft structures, shafts for golf clubs and fishing rods, tennis rackets, plate springs

• Brominated epoxy resins are used as flame-retarding agents in TV and OA equipment housings.
[Applications]
Housing materials for TVs and OA equipment, electronic parts
